The Church of the Nativty

The Church of the Nativity in Sandy Cove was consecrated in 1844 by John Inglis, the first Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia. Nativity has served the Village of Sandy Cove and its environs continuously since that time. Today services held regularly during the summer months conducted by visiting priests from across the country. Truly, the Church of the Nativity is not your ordinary country church; it is a vibrant part of summer life in Sandy Cove. The church is a registered Heritage Property and will celebrate its 175th Anniversay in 2019.

The Church of the Nativity also owns, through the Bishop of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, a 3-bedroom house. This is used to house visiting priests and their families when they come to Sandy Cove to serve during the summer months.

On August 4, 2019, The Church of the Nativity will hold its 175th Anniversay celebrations. The guest of honour will be the Right Reverend Susan Moxley, retired Bishop of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. There will also be a luncheon at the Digby Neck First Hall. Details to follow.

As with any old buildings, upkeep is a large and continuing expense. Since May of 2012 the posts holding up the belfry of the church were refurbished and replaced as required, a new roof was put on the church, the church was painted, new storm windows were made and many siding boards were replaced. The Rectory has been recently painted and its roof refurbished, a modern bathroom was installed. There are two investment funds to help with upkeep, but the income is never sufficient! Any and all donations will be most appreciated.
