About This Station
The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Vue weather station. The data is collected every 60 seconds and the site is updated every 5 minutes. This site and its data is collected using Davis WeatherLink Software. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible. Please note that in windy conditions, the rain gauge is inaccurate. And, it does not record snow. Please see the COCORAHS Canada Map (External Links) page for more accurate information. Scroll the map until Southwest Nova Scotia is visible, then click on the circle at Sandy Cove. The station number is CAN-NS-109.
About Sandy Cove
The village of Sandy Cove is located on beautiful Digby Neck, a peninsula along the south coast of the Bay of Fundy in Southwest Nova Scoita.
Sandy Cove was settled mainly by United Empire Loyalists in the early 19th century. In the early years there was a ship building industry, but now the village is mainly fishers of lobster and ground fish and many summer residents from all over North America.
The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world ranging up to 20m/60 ft in the upper part of the Bay. At Sandy Cove, tides range up to 7m/20 ft. On the Bay of Fundy side of The Neck is a 1.5 km long sandy beach. There are three churches in the village. However, only two are presently in use and then only during the summer months..
